Why I believe that abortion is wrong:

Abortion kills a living human being.

A.)   Human

When a human egg and a human sperm unite, the resulting “product” is human.  It is not a dog; nor is it a monkey.  It cannot be anything but human.

B.)  Living

“Life” is defined in the Encarta dictionary as “existence in physical world: the quality that makes living animals and plants different from dead organisms and inorganic matter. Its functions include the ability to take in food, adapt to the environment, grow, and reproduce.”

1.)    Existence in the physical world

No educated person can say that when a woman is pregnant that there is not a human “something” inside of her.

2.)  Functions that define “Living”

a.)  Ability to take in food

A fetus does so through the umbilical cord

b.)  Adapt to the environment

A fetus is constantly adapting inside the uterus

c.)  Grow

A fetus spends its entire time in the womb growing

d.)  Reproduce

A fetus’s reproductive system begins developing within a few weeks of conception, although the child will not be able to reproduce until after puberty.  We currently do not allow the abortion/extermination of children before they reach puberty, so the lack of ability to reproduce cannot be used as an excuse for a fetus not being alive.

What are our basic human rights?  The right to life, liberty, freedom of thought and expression, and equality before the law.   We have a responsibility to protect and guard ALL human life.

When life is devalued, there is nothing worth living for.
